Hello everyone,

A couple years have now gone by since I brutally crashed and burned on my attempt to build the
60G ZEOVit Korallenzucht Mini Riff , ever since then, I've found myself checking up on this forum sporadically and missing the days where reefing was always present on my daily activities (One of the very few I truly enjoy)... Fair to say, once a reef keeper, always a reef keeper.

Not sure if this is the correct thread for a 30 Gallon (29 technically), but is considered a Micro... So here it goes:

After long self-psychological warfare I've decided to acquire an Innovative Marine NUVO 30L Micro reef tank, I have the tank sitting at the Bulk Reef's supply shopping kart page, but I have not yet pulled the trigger because there is a chance one of my former local suppliers has it in stock, but the purchase is definitively happening this coming Tuesday.

I want to add here that this is going to be a "Baby Steps" kind of build since my spending budget will be a bit limited, but for those of you that enjoy build threads, stick with this one, I will make it happen this time around, that is my promise!!!.

We typically refer to tanks this size as Nano, not micro. Glad you are sticking in there. A good challenge is good for us.

I know the term Nano has been a little "wishy-washy" for the past decade or so, but when the reef industry adopted it back in the early 2000's, a Nano used to be more exclusive to "Desktop" sizes ranging from 4G to 12G; as the hobby progressed and manufacturers created the Cube, we have gone through 16, 18, 20, 24 and 28... So yes, current public consensus is any tank under 140 Liters (35G) is to be considered as such. I'm calling mine Micro because is the name given by the manufacturer.

Actually, we refer to 60 gallons or less as Nano. 9 gallons or less is considered Pico. Innovative Marine might market this tank as micro for beginner purposes. However, the reefing community goes by nano. I'm just pointing that out in case you were doing searches for Micro reefs without much success. Honestly, I could give two poops to the terminology and it really isn't up for debate.

And really anything smaller than an actual ocean reef system would be considered micro reef system.

No newbie here... Been reefing since 1997, way before it was considered popular and a very long ways before 90% of the stuff in today's market was available.

Nice! Yeah back in your time nanos weren't much of an option. Mostly they were considered difficult and at professional level lol.. Times have changed!

Absolutely!!!, it has been truly fun to keep up with the hobby... I have had a few tanks throughout the past 10/12 years, going from 24G all the way up to 750G; is truly amazing how far we've come.

This was my last tank, I had it from 2003 through 2011, I had to import the tank from Canada (Because the use of Star-fire glass was very limited to aquarium builders here in US), also brought all the equipment from Germany because back then Deltec was considered almost scientific grade. Actually had to hire Sfiligoi in Italy to manufacture custom pendandt because back then no MH stock light fixture was strong enough to penetrate a 40" dept.
