Lighting in your Reef
The subject of reef tank lighting is one of the most controversial subjects in the reef keeping hobby. Lighting is always a highly debated topic among reef keepers because there are people who have had success or failure with each different type of lighting system used. However while many reef keepers are concerned with the appearance of their reef tank, the most important consideration for reef tank lighting lies in choosing a lighting system based on the requirements of the animals that we wish to keep. There are also many environmental reasons why corals may change color. However, in home reef aquariums, the most common cause of dramatic color change is due to lighting.
This month we will be talking about, what else of course, reef tank lighting. We will touch on T5’s Halide’s and LED’s. Our President, Chris Messier will be presenting so, be prepared for more on halide’s than anything as these happen to be his favorite!
