I have a jbj nano with the pro lighting, problem is that some of the leds on the strips are dying. It's an easy fix but I have to re solder new ones on. This just gets annoying. Does any one have any ideas on what I can run that are better and possibly controllable without removing the canopy or is it a good idea to just go with xr15 and put a glass cover over.

You could do a retro with nanoboxreef. You can keep the hood and have control of the lighting thru your phone or tablet. I had it on my bc29 and loved it. when I sold that tank, I took out the lights and retro fit them into my evo tank. You also could go with rapidled or steve's led for retro's in the hood. If you decide to remove the top you will have many choices.

+1 on nanoboxreef retrofit. They all come standard with a bluefish controller as well so you can adjust percentages of each channel as well as schedule morning, midday, and evening lighting separately.
