So, I have heard of a lot of people using "pool filter sand" in their reefing adventures. I just wanted to share this with everyone. I am a maintenance technician for an apartment complex and we just recently had our pool filter sand completely replaced. They installed a silica sand which I was told is a standard. I looked over the bag and nowhere mentioned on the packaging does it say "silica sand". Just "pool filter sand" and "not for sale in California". So make sure when you go that route to make sure to ask for a silicate free sand if you go that route. Thought I'd share this tidbit of info to fellow reefers.
