I know its winter time, You guys think your heaters are awesome. But don't forget! they always FAIL FAIL FAIL!

my girlfriend and I our heater Failed on us last night i didn't know till this morning. went down stairs to see the tank in the basement, IT WAS ON 68* degrees! WE have 3 clowns over 17 anemones, and a bunch of frags and my colony's from the display cause were doing some re arranging. so i just remembered i didn't have anymore heaters cause i just sold the old ones we had. NOW I HAVE TO go buy a new heater.

right now we have 3 nano heaters in the tank. Its up to 74*degrees right now over a 5 hour time span, i hope everything pulls threw and makes it. i do see everything is open, no fish are dead or any cleaner shrimp or snails. SO we are hoping for the best.

please everyone check your heaters and if there old make sure you get a good heater and make sure you replace them from time too time. Its always good to have extras in a case like this.

i willl keep you guys updated! Cross your fingers for us.!

this just happened went outta town to staten island for just 2 days came back tank was at 65

I actually had something similar happen to me last week. My tank sits on my desk at work and everything that runs the tank is plugged into my apex which in turn is plugged into a surge protector. Well at one point during the night the surge protector decided to die and everything that gets power in the tank turned off. Long story short when I got into work an noticed it and got the apex plugged in the temp in the tank was 66 degrees. As the tank temp rose the fish started swimming around more and the corals started to open up. At first I though I lost a couple corals but everything managed to pull though.

If everything in my tank made it though that without pumps or heaters hopefully yours will too. When it happened someone told me that fish and corals tend to have a higher survivability rate when temps drop but not so much when they go up.

i was so scared it droped to 68* was shocked. i was like looking for all the clowns and thank god there alive. and everything else right now the tank is at 76 and rising.

I like to keep a right-sized heater in each tank of the system. No one failure is likely to make a spit's worth of difference. :)

This also serves as a good reminder for me to check my tank temperature more often. Or better yet, learn how to setup my controller to send me a text if the temp drops below 76.

right now over a 10 and a half hour rate the temp is finally back to 78.8-79*degrees. Everything looks fine as of right now. i think its not too bad for it to shoot up from 68-78.8 i hope not at least

please let this be a reminder to everyone Always check your temp never be to cocky with your very nice units. theres a malfunction with everything in this world. i hope you all have a bless holiday and blessed one for your family's.

That is great advice you cannot be to carefull when it comes to temp. control. I actually run two heaters so they don't have to work so hard. Even though they have their own thermostats i have them linked to my Apex so if they stick or whatever the Apex will kill the power. Also i have two extra heaters if needed.

Just bought a hydor 200W heater.... from a store i dont like there so expensive for no reason. 45$ for the dang heater thats with taxes. i had no choice the 2 nano heaters were doing nothing. so the tank was at 74 for the past 2 days now its at 78-79.5 where it should be. So happy again :)

DONT FORGET TO CHECK THOSE HEATERS GUYS/GALS!

Yup. I run 2 heaters also. Just in case one fails. There's still one in there. Also hooked up to controller. A heater that stops working isn't as bad as a heater that's stuck in the on position.

^this, I need to invest in a apex

No, you were right in the first place. Checking your tank temp in person is better, but an automation is a nice addition. :)

Definitely best advice during this time of year is to get two heaters, ideally good brands and not econo ones. I know Aqueon heaters at my shop have a lifetime warranty of them and their hard plastic durable shell seconds as blunt weapon if need be.. haha

Anyways, you'll be surprise how hardy fish and corals are. I've imported about 10,000 pieces of corals and fish and there's been winter shipments where they export still put ice-bags in the shipment. The water was ICE cold <65 degrees, coral and fish all were totally fine.

NOT suggesting that its okay to keep the temperature low, but just letting y'all know how hardy these guys are.
