I'm 17, i just bought my first tank, its a 29 gallon tall, just got it home and set it back up with its original water from the person we bought it from, just tested the salinity, it is max on our hydrometer, in my dad's tank its reading 1.025.

It came with a Clownfish and a Damsel, I don't want to shock the fish by reducing the salinity too fast, what is the best way to bring it down?

1.025 is not high. I keep my tank at 1.025. Why do you think it’s high?
I think he is saying the water from the tank they just got is maxed out on their hydrometer so they tested his dads tank to make sure the hydrometer was reading correctly and it read 1.025 from his dads tank.

Sorry i missed the responses, I poured in 4 gallons of pure rodi to top off the tank, brought it down to 1.028 (max is 1.032 which is what it was reading before i'm going to continue doing water changes at 1.025 to bring it the rest of the way down. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Technically due to dilution, if you do waterchanges at 1.025 when your salinity is above, u will never really reach 1.025.... u need to do waterchanges at a lower salinity(1.020-1.023) than desired to get to 1.025

Well you got a lot of different answers lol. When I recieve fish orders, I always acclimate them in a bucket. I add enough of their water so they can swim, and then I start adding water from my system.

Maybe you can do something like that. Put the fish in a 5 gallon bucket with enough water for them to swim. Get the water in your tank to 1.025, and then slowly add water from your tank to the bucket.
