Bought two 75 gallons at the Petco dollar sale. Apparently it’s tempered glass. Shattered as I was almost through. Ruined my night. I drilled 2 40gallons no problem. Who makes non tempered?

Wow - I hate to see that! I've been there so I have a sense of what you're feeling. Here is a link to the Deep Blue specs (tempered vs. non-tempered), but regardless what a vendor says or the person at the store says I have learned to always do the polarized sunglasses evaluation before drilling a tank.

Sucks .. Thank you.

Hate to see that. Makes me a little more nervous about drilling mine. I have a Marineland and called them to see what kind of glass was in it. They told me only the bottom was tempered. Still nervous about it though. Good luck in the future

So sorry :( had a similar issue
Couldnt find a 75 that wasnt tempered so I went with a reef ready
I bought two tanks and ordered everything from BRS to set them up. Including two Eshopps overflows. Im going to be out the money for the one I opened.

If it’s not tempered... don’t sweat it. It’s easy. Watch a video on YouTube.

I actually purchased a non drilled and was going to drill it, but going from warm car to negative degree garage shattered one of the panels. That's actually how I discovered they were all tempered :/

Next time take a glass cutting tool (couple bucks at the hardware store) and try to score a small line inside of the hole you want to drill. The tool will score a clean white line in annealed glass. Tempered glass, if it scores at all, will be glittery and uneven. If it is tempered your best bet is to throw the tank on Craigslist and purchase one that is annealed.

Been there, done that. It looks like an Aqueon tank. Right?

I think the largest Aqueon with a non-tempered bottom is the 33 Long.

But it isn't the end of the world. With patience and proper preparation, you can remove the bottom pane and replace it with non tempered. I did.

I did a research and find out that Petco Aqueon brand on the 75g all sides are tempered and I called the manufacturer and they confirm that. Now, I went to Pet Supermartket that carry Marineland brand on the 75g and called Perfecto who is the tank manufacturer and they told me that only the bottom is tempered but all side are glass. Also they told me that the tank can be drill but will void the warranty.

Good to know. Thank you. I’ll see if I can find one local. I’m going to look at used also.

I thought I would just break the rest of the tank up and put the pieces in a bucket. Well I hit the side panel twice with a hammer and it didn’t even scratch it. I didn’t full on hit it...but I hit it pretty good. I was surprised the force it took without breaking. I just carried it to the curb. I don’t want glass everywhere.

That tank with the front glass missing actuall would make a good terrarium or vivarium if you silicone a 6” price of glass across the front

Sorry to hear that.

Just a small recommendation when you get to drilling the next tank: place a bundled old towel inside the tank where the drilled disk will drop to avoid it hitting the bottom panel when you finally cut all the way through. (towel will end up with some fine glass shards in it as well as the round cutout, so I would discard the towel afterwards as well.)

@Biggestfish I saw that you're using the eshopps eclipse overflow, right?
I ask you this question because If you drill the tank using the Eshopp template outside, the water line will be bellow the trim. I put mine inside the tank since the trim is smaller/thinner and drill the tank from inside. My water line is right by the trim.
