Just curious about your water changing equipent

You guys/gals using the Apex/Dos, how's that work? I have an Apex (in box still.... no idea how to use the thing) and would consider getting a DOS/pump/whatever if I can use it solely for automatic water changes (or is there a better purchase for this?)

I use old return pumps etc, and some tubing, and buckets for my water changes, but I have burned out 2 return pumps in about 2 months..... so I'm guessing sucking junk from the sand isn't good for them! Going bare-bottom soon, so that won't be an issue, but going to automatic water-changes or even 'automated' ones, would be something I am definitely interested in!

#4 ATO for 10 gallon fresh water tank

My water changing station. I use tubing and string it to my tank to fill up. For waste water I have an old pump with more tubing that I use to drain water into the washer drain. Takes me 5 min to do a water change.

My mixing station is in the room behind the room my tank is in. I have plumbed my salt and RO/DI tanks through the wall under the sink in wet bar. Both pipes have barbed fittings and a valve. Just flip a switch to turn my pump on and pump salt water to my tank or RO/DI to my ATO reservoir.

Attach the flexible tubing to this fitting for the water change.

Nice set ups! My conundrum is that I have a 55. I wonder if the apex is “overkill.” My set up is sort of like the last pic from saltyhog. It works well, but still have to work with hoses that don’t stay straight, etc. new thoughts?

I have an Autoaqua AWC/ATO as well but quit using it for water changes. I had a hard time getting the sensors right. It was a pain. I use for ATO only. Now I use the mouth, hose, bucket method. I do use a small pump to get the water back in though.

Very nice! I think your reservoir holds more volume than my 55 tank!

(Salt in, salt out and rodi) they run through the attic and down the wall to the top of my doorway. Then behind baseboards over to the tank. Prob 10 foot vertical and 70 foot horizontal. The DOS has no issues with AWC. I am using a Pmup to run rodi inside with no issues.

That is really cool!
