I wish my girl knew what a anemone was!!!

I think im up to about 10k already

29 gallon reef
40 gallon frag tank
100 gallon in the process

I try not to think about it. Where's that meme about lighting $100 bills on fire? haha My boyfriend and I were kind of discussing it a while ago and at that point on the 68 gallon we figured around $3,000 so far and that tank went up in July. There's also the biocube, my abyss tank I haven't even started yet, the 90 gallon freshwater and my five gallon betta tank. We spend a lot of money on our tanks and other animals. One of the reasons why we have no kids. That funny money would be gone hahahaha

You work hard every day and you take care of family needs, so why not have something that relaxes you and gives you a way to unwind. I don't keep track because it will just be one more thing to worry about. Take care of life biz and use your hobby to recharge your batteries and chill.

Uh you know u probably need too. Think bout it man. So one day u can ask ur self. Holy cow I spend all this money for this tank, man I could buy a car with this or I could have done better things with this money. But man, if u don't want to, I don't blame u.

But if I balance it out I made a lot more in the last 5 months selling all my acro colonies that I have been growing out from a 1" stick.
Not even to mention all the corals and equipment that I have been giving away for free as I pay it forward.
Let me see and I'll tally only for the tanks that I have currently running.

Frag room, build myself, included AC, heater, auto vent, dehumidifier, 20amp electrical, double insulated walls, cost probably if build by contractor $15k, my cost $3.1k.
Frag tanks $1100
Sump, plumbing, return pump, dosers, heaters $1200.
Skimmer lifereef $600
Ecotech radions 4 units, $2400 if I had to pay for them but they were free.
Ecotech vortech mp40 4 units $1600 if I had to pay for them but they were free.
Mixing station, icecap smart RODI and ATO $1700.
Shipping materials and equipment, $500.

The Diesel tank!
Custom tank 3 side starphire, pvc bottom, CTC overflow $3800
Custom stand build from plywood, natural stones and glass tile, granite top, 6 hardwood doors with smoked glass and backsplash from same natural stone and glass tile, if build by contractor $8400 but I build it myself $3100.
BOA sump $1600
Return pump $500
Lifereef skimmer $600
I ran this tank for 5 years on radions from gen1 up to gen3 if I had to pay for that 5 units $9000 but they were free.
Vortech pumps mp40 Wes at first now QD 5 units if paid for $4000 but they were free.
I run now ATI hybrid 8 bulb 60" unit. $2400
Bulbs Giesemann swap every 6 months $250 but they are send free to me.
Rock, sand $400
Apex with all bells $1200
Mis equipment $5000 for replacements and repair.
Livestock fish as of now $15k,
Corals spend last five years $23k.
Food, salt, elements, water over the last six years $3k on a estimate
Maintenance on the systems over the last 6 years while I was out of town or vacations $12k give and take.

Corals, fish and equipment that I gave away over the last 6 years to shows, fundraisers, and just randomly to local Reefers $30k give and take.

76 home grown colonies sold in the last 4 months on a average of $1400 per colony.

I know I forgot some small stuff but
I'll let you do the math
If a hobby can generate it self it will make it a lot easier.
My hobby was basically funded by only fun money, no money absolutely in CC or out my income.
If you make $1 you can't spend $2 is just my golden rule and it works long time.

A nicely equipped Tank alone can be 10K easy. Price a red sea 650. your going to spend at least 6K and that's without an apex a chiller a reactor and gauges and a few other toys.

That tank is only a 150 gallon display. Most everyone here has lost a coral that cost over $200-$300 I know I have.

I lost a small colony of Oregon Torte that was maybe worth $500-800 depending on the market.

I know that's small beans compared to most of you guys and gals.

My main point is if you make a million dollars a year your probably not going to have a 10 gallon tank with $10 frags. Its all relative and that's what makes this hobby fun.

Ben you just gave away the tricks to the trade LOL

I've got probably well over 10 grand over the past 2.5 years from tanks I've bought and sold and fish I've lost and coral loses on my part. It's crazy to about and definitely a very nice looking money pit but can also be a money maker
