Found in tank today. Looks a bit like a snail with shiny shell. Pictures show from above and below. Taken it out of tank so hope it wasn’t a useful critter.

Can anyone identify please?

It’s the “trap” door to a turbo snail I believe. Must of had a snail die recently. Or maybe it’s just been mixed up in the sand and just now coming to the surface.

I’m trying to figure out what it is. I had one before to and I forget what it is. @Crabs McJones any ideas?

Sorry had to quote myself. Just pulled a couple out of my sandbed, along with the large turban snail shells my hermits killed.
I see. Just a lot of times Foraminiferans can have shells that looks very similar and they can be flat or domed like that.

Thank you all for your replies. I did have two turbo snails - both died within a couple of months. I also have a couple of red leg hermits.

I believe that is the opening flap of a turban snail.

Opperculum(sp?), or the "door" on a large snail.

Lets see if this works.....
