Just got home to my lipstick tang on its side dead :( I was wories because it didn't come out from its hiding space at all in the 4 days I owned him but my LFS told me not to worry because they are shy etc etc.. Gutted :(

i don't know if it did, but a green carpet nem can certainly kill fish, although a naso is pretty big...

Didn't you just post a thread this morning saying that your tank had been running for only 4 days, or was that a different tank you were talking about?

You definitely need to check your water parameters. Is this the tank that you just setup a few days ago? I believe I remember reading that it came with live rock and a couple of corals.

If you bought a setup from someone & moved all of the water, sand & livestock, it's possible that the disturbance of the sand bed could've stirred up some of the icky stuff that can really negatively affect your tank. Try checking your parameters again. : )

My LFS tested my water so I'm not sure, they said water is fine, I did an ammonia test today and was zero

Sorry for your losses.

I would invest in your own test kits and find out for yourself. What many LFS consider "fine" isn't always right. A test for Nitrites is very important in addition to ammonia.

Yeh I did set it up four days ago but the guy I got it off had the water etc in there for 8 month, I did my best to leave the sand in the tank with a few gal of water and it didn't move much, I will check the water and remove the anemone tomorrow as I've read they will eventually kill most your fish, which I don't want.

I do have the test kits but because it seemed too good to be true that they where all perfect I took a water sample to them to double check as I wasn't sure if I had done it right and wanted to double check

Glad to hear you have the test kits and are using them. Would you mind sharing with us what equipment (other than lights) came with the tank and how it is setup? ie. what type of filtration, are you running a skimmer? what type of power heads, etc.

That tank is to small for a naso anyways.... yes even a 4" one IMO. Did you see it eat and how was it actin at the LFS? It is possible the nem killed it, but if it hides in the rocks all day probably not, and that isn't exactly healthy behavior either (except maybe 1st day), and you don't have anything that would be forcing it into hiding or anything..... probably just a bad fish.

I'm sorry for your loss. It seems like you are getting some good advice here.
