I just got the IceCap 1K and so far like it. I have two B blades on it so I can try out the alternating gyre. Right now I have it at 30% constant speed. Everything is flowing nicely. Once the tank has gotten use to the new flow I will up the speed and try out the other modes especially the alternating gyre mode.

Ones that have the IceCap 1k/3k or really any gyre, what modes do you prefer. Each tank will be different but would still like to know.

The tank is 35.5"L x 14.5"W x 17 3/4"H.

1k in our 32 Biocube, we ran it at 100% Gyre for sometime, I just backed it down to 70% a couple weeks ago. It's a nem tank, although the high flow didn't bother them to much I wanted to see a less drastic softer flow. We also run 2 of the 3ks in the 144 1/2 moon. Both running at 70%, one on Gyre the other variable. I also have 2 Eflux wave pumps to help with some dead spots.

I just got the 1k recently as well.

Do you need to purchase the extra set of blades to run the gyre mode, or is that only if you want to run it on alternating gyre? I am also looking to dial in the best setting, currently running random mode up to 70% on my 75 gallon.

No. The extra blades are for the alternating mode.

Gotcha. I feel like one 1k isn’t quite enough for the 75 so I will likely get another for the opposite end. Right now I’m running an old Jebao and I’m not 100% sure where I like my settings.

i also just got a 1k, i like it so far. i have it on gradual pulse mode max of 20% forward 0% minimum, anymore than that and sand was being displaced on my 50 gallon cube 24x24x20

i will say i tried one of the modes, i forget which one but not the gyre, and i woke up to it making a weird noise which was quite annoying. i then ran the gyre mode (only to find that doesn't really work without buying extra stuff) for a few days which was quiet. then figured out a good speed and angle for the wave mode.

I just bought on yesterday have yet to put it in the tank will let everyone know what I think when I do.

I have the 3k and I love it. I have a 125 and the gyre is on one side and I have two hydor pumps on the other end. I only use alternating gyre when I have corals underneath it that need flow. If not I run at the alternating pulses with a max of 100 and the low at 20. I currently moved my frogspawn underneath of it so I am using the alternating gyre mode in order to give them a little flow. Not sure how that will work out yet! It can be loud sometimes just a fair warning. And make sure when you take it apart for cleaning that you put the cages on in the right direction because one time I had mine facing too far up and my water went everywhere lol. That was my fault though.

How is this pump ??? Im getting the Red Sea Reefer 170 (35g). Will one of these pumps be enough for an SPS/LPS tank and eliminate all dead spots to prevent detritus ?

i have had my 1k for about 6months.
I have mine programmed to change flow patterns up about 7 times a day from pretty much every flow pattern type it offers in the controller.

I will say when i had the 1k in my 35g cube i didnt like it. the shape being a cube didnt let it work as well. I had a ton of flow at the top and bottom since the tank was so short for the throw I had very low flow in the midle of the tank.
Now that I am in a 40breeder it is much better using it in a longer tank to let it throw the water further and give better overall flow.
From my experience I wouldnt recommend it in a smaller cube. Maybe larger cubes where it can throw the water further may work better

Do you think you’d be able to post your settings? Kind of curious how you have it programmed.

This morning I switched over to the alternating gyre mode. The blade near the backside is at -10% facing down and the blade near the front is at +50% towards the other side of the glass. It’s seems like the Candy Cane might be upset.

So I moved the Candy Cane and upped the other blade from 10% to 30% but I’m not getting a good alternating gyre. I’m getting a good gyre from the front glass blade but the back glass blade that points towards the bottom of the tank isn’t giving the same gyre. See my previous reply to see the pictures.

Been looking at the 1k. Now that some time has passed what you guys have to say about the 1k?? Good / bad?

well i've had mine since late march/early april and i like it. i just cleaned it for the first time, it wasn't slowing down or anything but it was getting covered in coraline. i'd totally recommend one.
