I have lost 1 fish every month or so for the last 5 months. Just received microscope and took snapshot of what I see. Can you help identify? Good or Bad? How to kill.
220 gal display
installed UV 40W last week
Brown stuff in sand appeared to dissappear but now it is back.

Thanks

Not sure if Brook First - they went blind and bumped into things - no visible signs on any except one - he had popeye. Have blue hippo tang right now in quarantine treating with Coppersafe and Metroplex - 5 day - seems to be getting a little better. 7811B53C-9ABE-455B-A3D9-95C9C435AA86.jpeg EABB29F0-FE5D-480F-A022-05362B517BAF.jpeg

What you are seeing in your microscope are a type of dinoflagellate. They can be highly toxic but fish normally don't eat them so they don't normally cause a problem with fish. If you would like help with those, I highly recommend asking about them in the nuisance algae section. Should get some good help for these.

Popeye can be a nutritional issue. Loosing a fish a month does seem odd. My experiences is that diseases tend to ramp up where it may kill one or two, and then start overwhelming the rest of the fish. Not something that drags on. How confident are you on your water quality? Do you use RODI?

Did as you suggested and saw where some are raising temps to 82 and that seems to do the trick with dinos

I can’t see your videos...Popeye could be a sign of flukes. Have you ever done a freshwater dip on these fish?

I have the same issue.

Did you find an answer?

What did you feed your fishes?

I have 5-6 tangs that have died the exact way you describe.

Im starting to think it's something toxic in the aquarium. Perhaps my food source - I've imported dried algue from china perhaps a bad batch in between..

Bought 40w UV and been running at low flow 6 weeks no issue so far

I do and have always run 4x 40 watt UV 24/7 so that doesnt help when the symptoms arrive.
