Just joined R2R: Favia questions!

ok, so Hi there, I've been reading posts on this site for a couple months now. What a great resource it's been to have all of your collective knowledge. I have been doing freshwater tanks practically my whole life and just moved to saltwater. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG I have no idea. I'm all about those COLORS... anyway...

I'm also all bout the research and I'm hitting a wall when it comes to some favia questions I have about 2 types I've ordered online from Uniquecorals.com. What i ordered is listed as Favia sp. - Christmas Favia frag and and the other is a Favia sp. - UC Fireworks Favia. I will post the pictures that the website provided, but they were NOT sold as WYSIWYG, but I'm hoping the pictures will be enough to possibly get more info on the specific needs of these brains and maybe more info on what kind of favias they really are taxonomically? [I've read the general info available out there on favias like lighting needs and agressiveness to other corals]

questions:
1. does anyone have these specific ones?
2. what can you tell me about them
3. how big can they get eventually if they start as 1" frags and are placed on SMALL "island rocks"

4.(bonus question) Is the "sp." in favia sp. just a cop-out for stores to not label what these things really are? or is there no real difference between all of these varieties?

Also if anyone is curious I can let you guys know about the quality of the stuff I receive from uniquecorals.com. It should be here tomorrow morning. anyone used these guys before? pests to look out for on arrival?

Low light and low flow wins the race for Favia. While I don't have any in my tank, they do like to grow out and can get pretty big. I believe the sp. is referring to a portion of their scientific name, its the UC Fireworks and Christmas that the stores or coral suppliers add on.
I've ordered from unique many a times, always had great experiences with them

I am a huge favia fan! I have tons in my 40g and this is a slight problem. Favias do not like each other much. Unless they are of the same species, they fight. Some also have sweeping tentacles to injure nearby corals. So, placement is crucial. On an island by them selves is perfect. Those two are beauties.

I would say, those are more passive in nature to some. They can grow moderately fast if given the right conditions. However, they do not grow as fast as leathers or most sps. I have some that grow very slowly and others that grow faster. One has been through a ton of crashes, gorgs, tank moves and been reduced to one mouth and still going strong. 1/2 baseball size now.

Most prefer moderate to low light. They also like lower flow so they can puff their tissues out. You will need nutrients in the water (nitrates and phosphates) and need to broadcast feed a couple times a week. Usually after lights out, when they feed.

Welcome to R2R!!! Favias in general don't like anyone, they are the bully on the playground, I have 20 different favia frags and half of them can get nasty and send out tentacles as long as 2 plus inches. Just when you think the tentacles won't be that long they can surprise you. Favias are beautiful though, they just have to be placed accordingly, when they sting another coral they will leave a mark. Favias do have some awesome color schemes. They like medium flow and low to medium light, I have had it go both ways as far as light.

Welcome to R2R! UniqueCorals.com is a good shop, but I have only corresponded with them with questions. I have also been to their sister store Manhattan Corals in NYC and it is excellent. I have corals from that shop and they were healthy and priced very reasonably for corals and for Manhattan.
