Hey All ..

So I have a powder blue tang that I have had in QT for about 3 weeks now.

* He is active and comes up to the tank now when I go over to it and right before feeding
* Is eating and grazing on the rock and the algae sheet (eating as much algae sheets as I put in there everyday) that I rubber band to the rock
* Eats mysis that are soaked in selcon (Even now goes up to the top of the tank in anticipation when I put the mysis in)

He has no signs of any disease and is doing great. My plan was to NOT treat and just continue to observe and fatten him up even more for around another 2-3 weeks before putting him into my main DT.

I know this is a much debated topic .. BUT I am assuming that I should be just fine NOT treating him and just observing him? I have had other tangs before and he is doing and showing all the right signs... just wanted to get some quick opinions on others who have been thru this exact situation

Thanks!!!

IME; an Acanthurus tang will almost always show symptoms of ich in QT after 4-6 weeks. If not white spots, you should at least notice behavioral symptoms such as rubbing, flashing & twitching. So, you should be safe there.

However, symptoms of gill flukes can be a bit more subtle. So I would at least run him thru 2 rounds of Prazipro (5-7 days apart) before placing in the DT. Make sure you do a 20-25% WC before commencing the second round.

If he is in QT, then I agree with Humble, you should have him in a medicated tank, this will take care of any underlying issues that are unseen, and keep them from becoming full blown.

Ok ... good stuff. I am glad I posted the question/concern. That is what I will do then .. I will start treating now, and then give it some time, do the water change and then after the 5-7 days later I will start round 2..

thanks guys!
