The petco's here in Atlanta are hit and miss. There's one in Gwinnett that had a renovation of the fish dept, looked good initially but it slowly slipped into neglect land! There stores have promise for people like me (reef tank owner and dog owner) so it's cool to kill two birds with one stone. But the condition of there saltwater tanks has me just getting dog food, cause the the fish dept looks like dog food!!!

I really think it's up to the manager or maybe the department manager if the store is worth a dang. When I lived in Vegas the one by my house was amazing, but that was in the late 90s. Here in the chicagoland area there is no middle ground, they are either impeccable or deplorable.

At times I think about trying to save the corals, fish and anemones by buying them and setting up another tank, then once healed id sell them. But then I realize I'd never break even and would cost me money I can't spare.

I was in Petco last summer. They had 4 dead mandarines and one starving survivor. I asked them what they were feeding them and the kid produced some marine pellets. I couldn't believe a pet store would stock an animal it had no ability to feed.
I bought the starving fish and it was eating before I left the store. (I had just scored a bottle of pods from friend and due to the fact it was close to 100 degrees out, I had brought the pods in with me.
I complained to Corporate. I told the regional manager: "If someone came in your store and you had a pen full

of dead and starving puppies, you'd be shut down immediately, so why is it Ok to starve a fish to death?"

They talked a good game and offered me a discount on my next purchase which I have never redeemed. Most of the fish and inverts I have bought there didn't last 2 days.

and can you imagine a company like this is about to take over Dr.Foster&Smith + LiveAquaria......hope it's just rumors

The Petco near me isn't nearly as bad as a LFS near me that is owned and operated by one guy. His opinion on filtration is "all you need is a deep sand bed" I have went there twice and both times at least five fish were dead in the tanks.

 hey is the red stuff for sale o_O
No the red stuff comes free if you purchase anything in any of those thanks. Just put what you bought in your tank and wait a week you'll have the same fancy red color growing on your tank in no time.

Yep, that's where I live too and have seen their stuff. I've even tried buying fish and a couple of sad corals to try and save them, but they all died within 48 hours and just infected my tank with nasty algae. I'll never go back to that place again. Pure Reef for me.

Pure Reef is where I go too.

My buddy just went to get a couple of clowns... I guess not:rolleyes:

It needs to be stopped....what do you guys think of a petition?
I would certainly sign one, certainly one thing we can all do is to boycott any marine fish live/dry goods from these stores and to discourage others from buying the same; they're a business so if they are losing money on a line of livestock/merchandise maybe they will give it up.
