Hi. I just noticed white spots on my foxface rabbit fish. He's in my tank with my other fish who look fine. What do I do? Do I get him out asap? I could set up a qt tank today. Or do I monitor for a bit? The rabbitfish has been healthy since I've had him for a few months. Nothing new added to the tank in awhile until yesterday I added a featherduster worm without QTing. Could that have given the rabbitfish ich so quickly? Ahh!!

If you're certain it's Ich, then you'll need to decide on what to do with both the Foxface and the entire tank. Those are two separate but related problems.

Treating the visually affected fish is definitely a good idea. CopperSafe gets my recommendation.

Treating the tank with some Metro and a strong UV is my other suggestion.

I'm not certain it's ich. Attached is a pic. You can see the spots above his eye and in the upper part of his body. What do you think...look like ich?

I’d monitor for now. Generally ich starts on the fins. If they disappear and reappear somewhere else, you know it’s ich.
To me it looks more like mucus plugs which often occur as a response to stress.

Thanks for the responses. Just a quick bump. So... I should just monitor him? If it is ich, the other fish are already exposed. Will it improve their chances to get him out of the tank or is that too late?

I would set up quarantine and treat it with either copper safe or Copper Power monitored with a reliable copper test kit such as Hanna Brand at therapuetic level 2.25-2.5 for a full 30 days. Also monitor ammonia levels during treatment and even add aeration via air stone
