I just ordered a 14g biocube by Oceanic and wanted to know if anyone knew the mods that are done to these tanks to make them better. The tank will be here in 7 days so stay tuned for the build on this page.

I upgraded the lighting system by adding another 24w pc, I removed the bioballs and modified the chamber to accept my heater, upgraded the fans, upgraded the return pump, andf modified the back to accept a canister filter in/out. Also added a skimmer. Probably a considerable more, I just don't quite recall

LOL!! My experience, exactly. Though I haven't done all of what Alex did, I'm going to have to do it before setting my 14-gal Cube up again. About the only thing you get that's worth anything when you buy it is the tank and top. The fans are garbage, ballasts marginal, and drive pump adequate. Nice size for a nano and a nice look, but the total cost of ownership is a bit more than the initial purchase price.

what fans did you upgrade to and what retrun pump? let me know so i can order them. i already knew about the light upgrade but im only doing zoos and mabey a few LPS so im not worried about it. I have some lava rocks im going to replace the bioballs with and i was thinging about a 10g sump with a skimmer and heater in there. Does anyone know if the back of these tanks are glass? If they are i might skip the sump...to much trouble and does anyone use a powerhead along with the tanks pump for flow? if so what kind.

I have a 29 Gallon Biocube:
Upgraded 2 PCs to 4 PCs 144 Watts
Added a Sapphire Skimmer
Changed the fans
Changed the feed pump
Added a MJ inside for flow

Now - in process of adding Sapphire sump/fuge
Thinking of going to LEDs.. less electrical cost, Less heat.. bucoo bucks for upgrade.

so the tank is due here on saturday, I already have the sand, i just ordered the nano live rock kit from F&S and ive been thinking about leaving the stock pump as is and putting a vortech mp10 on it for flow anyone else doing or seen this done on a 14G or 12g nano? If so let me know how it works or if its much.

Also can anyone that has one of these tanks tell me it the black back that you see in the tank is glass or not because i also thought of just adding another return pump with the output on the right side of the tank and puting both pumps on a wavemaker to be a little more cost effective. Any thoughts?
