Let's say you buy a fish from a friend or even another r2r member... the seller confirms that they are disease free. No ich, no velvet, no flukes, nothing.

Would you consider putting that fish straight into your DT or would you still quarantine?

No reason for the question, other than I thought it might tell us something about your attitude to risk and how much you trust others...

No, I would still have it go through my quarantine procedure. Reason being just because there is no sign of parasites doesn't mean they are not there.

No fish (coral, snail, etc) from any source is going in my display without a quarantine period.
If I trusted the source, I may just do observation and feeding. Otherwise they're getting my standard qt procedure.
I am very risk averse haha

I think if I knew what the person's tank looked like and the fish had been in their care for a significant length of time, I wouldn't worry about quarantining.... especially if it was a friend and I was able to observe the fish in person, as I only observe the animals in my 'quarantine' set-up and make sure they're eating.

Interesting isn't it... I work in insurance and am an underwriter by background (with a biology degree... I know, I know!) So I guess that's why it interested me. FWIW I think like @Maddlesrain I'd QT unless I absolutely knew they were disease free.

If I had a QT, I would QT anything and everything wet that went into my tank. I don't, so I am very anal about sources. Someday I will probably get burned, but for now I have been lucky. My LFS runs copper in their DTs and I observe everything eat before I bring it home and take immediate action at the first sign of a problem. (Those were lessons learned early on.)

Never, always QT!!!!
