Just ranting here

Bad deal. Haven't you heard Manhattan is sinking? I'll give you some rare ultra Pandoras (1 polyp) for the magic beans, though.
Darn... Make it 1 polyp of the Pandora's and one polyp of some green bay packer zoas and its a deal foe the trinkets.

The sad part is you get newer hobbyists that honestly think if they aren’t paying ridiculous prices they aren’t getting quality! My lfs has shown me their wholesale lists and even those prices are stupid high. Wholesale prices today are twice the price of retail 10+ years ago.

Im sorry to rant but its getting disgusting with coral prices. I went on three sites and my favorite site (will not disclose) . . . . I had to close the pages at page 3-4 as the prices are beyond insane and very unwelcoming to new hobbyists who many want that certain starter coral(s) and may be able to get one or two at these prices and add $30-40 for shipping on top of it..
I have been buying local and from private parties and am glad I made that switch.
Some, I paid $10-$20 a year or a little more ago and are now $55-$75 especially for two head zoa or other bread and butter coral.
And this PERCENTAGE off of sale price is a load of garbage as One in particular was $75 and 20% off last week (making it $60.00) and today its $65.00 and 10% making it $59.50 - Still $60
Just sad.. . .. . .
ANYWAY, HOPING EVERYONE IS HAVING A GREAT WEEKEND AND ENJOYING THEIR TANKS

I hear you. I like to try to support my LFS and certain online shops but the prices are getting ridiculous. At this point you can get pretty much anything you'd ever want from a local hobbiest for a fraction of the price. Good way to end up with a friend too lol

Wait are there people here who wouldn’t put 30k on a fish that looks injured?!???!!! IMG_6316.jpeg
LOL,

Been looking to start a tank. Pricing and planning stage. Looking at prices and the amount of people posting tank breakdown sale threads, export bans, etc... has me wondering if this hobby is starting to die.

Ha that koi random mix is a bunch of BS. I saw this in the ornamental pheasant market too. People started to cross different pheasants and would get all kinds of crazy patterns and colors. It was a hit for a while until it wasn’t. They produced so many birds they couldn’t give them away. You will see it here too soon. Once they start crossing all those tangs. They look unnatural to me.

Like Cichlid Dad I just bought corals from a lady’s garage. She hand selected pieces for me and even dipped them right in front of me. Zoa colonies cheaper than a 2 head frag online. I also have pods hand delivered to my work from a place that fills the order that day.

I got a small colony west side Tort for 25.00.. Then a Oregon tort 35.00. ora teal stag 15 .00 I get large montipora 15.00. The zoa colony next to the monipora was 15.00

When I first got into the hobby I spent so much time doing the live sales and watching for holiday sales. After you look at the same corals so often you realize the so called live sale prices are not much lower then normal everyday prices unless its a $5 frag.. I agree with you all as well the frags seem to be getting smaller while prices rise. I enjoy the sales on FB more now. You actually get to see the coral you are buying in real time without the macro shots and goofy filters. Lots of these folks sell the corals live while showing you the corals in their frag beds. Its the best wysiwyg experience short of visiting a LFS that I have found imo
Links to the pages?

Those yurple tangs have to be the ugliest fish on the planet next to the gem tang…

It seems like one thing that has become common is adopting the outlet mall strategy of everything always being on sale. A frag of xenia will be perpetually on sale for $30 with a list price of $75. 60% off, what a steal!

But the more I think about it, as surprised as I am by the people coming up with the prices, I think I am more surprised by the people paying them.

The auctions are where it is really telling. Can't believe what some people will pay. And the stupidity! An auction going on right now: $140 bid on a derasa clam. The same derasa clams are on the vendor website for $100, before any daily discount!
