Ok I see. When you return see if you can pick up a 10 -20 gallon setup for cheap and use that as a QT. You can find these smaller systems most of the time on Craigslist or from Facebook resale pages in your area at very reasonable prices. You can also use a tote with a hang on the back filter, heater and light, this would be easy to store away for emergencies as well. My main system is 180 gallons so I have 6- 32 gallon trash cans on standby [emoji12] Please let us know how things go when you return.

Thanks so much! I'll definitely get everything figured out later

This might be not your solution but I normally warn people that will take care of the aquarium by saying that "please! do not spray anything around the aquarium- that might kill the fish".

Additionally, does your mom opens a window when you are gone?

It might be the reason that your room is small and has lots of indoor plants and the room suffers from oxygen depletion at night for long not refreshing the room's air and therefore wide Ph swings kill your fish.

Or it might be the reason that your mom opened the window in your room and somebody used pesticides for the garden and the pesticides killed your fish.

Examples can be multiplied but the core idea is that we should regard, not only the mass of the aquarium water, also the air that the aquarium water exposes most.

If I cannot find any internal problem for my aquarium, I usually control possible outside factors. That is also why I shared this. Best of luck! :)
