Hey everybody. New to the hobby, I started a 20 gallon tank and recently purchased two coral frags. The one is brown with a yellow spot (I don’t think it’s doing too well but this is how it came). Is there anything to do to help it? And does anyone know what kind of coral it is?

Looks like Green Star Polyps. They grow in a mat, and the polyps are the bumps you see (they are closed up in the mat...happens when disturbed).

Can be invasive and spreads, so you may want to keep it isolated from the rock work.

Pretty hardy coral that likes dirtier water/more nutrients but can thrive in almost any environment.

it's nice to have a new family member, welcome.i think the above replies are correct.sometimes star polyps can take a week or so to open.you'll see small portions of it start to extend slightly and then after a day or two most of them should open.i would give them an island rock all to them selves.they can take over an aquascape fast.this way you isolate them and enjoy them all by themselves.

Welcome to R2R @Chestnuthood !

I have loads of the green star polyp and it will grow on anything it attaches to and spread. I actually quiet like it as it provides loads of movement.

I’ve also found mine prefers and will spread more in high flow areas.
