Just started my tank two days ago

I bought an RO/DI unit on eBay for I think around $80-90 and so far so good, BUT you do get what you pay for. Better systems have better filters and I ended up having to buy around $50 worth of upgrades for it anyways. So shop around.

Btw this is me tank pretty much a pile of rocks and a bed of sand

Just curios, what is the name of your own local fish store?

I had a tank exactly like this a couple years ago. I didn't have a sump and was able to care for all coral types. I did have a hang on back skimmer and did frequent water changes (10% a week) and had great success! Like others have said take it slow, have good consistent tank husbandry habits, and ask questions. That's what we are all here for. Happy reefing!

What does something like that cost

There again there are so many options for sumps.....your likely going to look for a HOB skimmer, over flow box into a sump/refugium..

Strongly recommend that you read up on sections on R2R, you can get and learn so much from here. Everyone in very helpful and we all strive for success.

Be very patient, first mistakes always happen due to people being in a hurry, because they want the instant tank setup. Instant failure.

Cycling tank is so key....water flow is a big key. Check out the DIY.. section, and check all supply Web sites for info on equipment you may want to get, as in lighting, pumps,
heaters and so on. All this will help learn this hobby and not set your self up for failure.

Also check YouTube. ...you'd be surprised at what you find out there. .

Best of luck....

With your live rock I would suggest you place them so the least amount is touching the sand bed. More surface area for flow and bacteria to grow plus will help keep detritus from gathering under it

Rember the more simple something is the more likely you are to do it on a regular basis
