hey fellow reefers,
been reefing since 01, had display fuge before ut was a thing (caulerpa). last 75 beat me with vermetids and hydroids had a suck local deal on a reefer 450 i couldnt pass up. Loving this triton thing, it just makes sense. figured i'd run through current build. will try to be succinct and complete as possible.
-reefer 450 -white
-reefer breeder 50 v2
-ro 110 classic
-crystal reef aquatics "triton" sump made for tank
-100 #'s brs reefsaver dry rock
-kessil h380 ran reverse cycle
-Apex, 1 dos, 2 Wav
rubbermaid cycled thanksgiving 18 tanks filled and scaped christmas. used NH4.
jan 10 no apparent cycle.
fish added jan 10 low to moderate fishload
chaeto added jan 10, chqeto melted, replaced, chaeto melted again. added ulva. melted. locally sourced new chaeto struggled became riddled with hair algae along with rest if sump.
feb- began flipping new chaeto feb 25th. chaeto respinds favorably
march 1st showing signs of alkalinity and Ca drop despite no corals so set up DOS with b-ionic (a ton on hand) at 5ml / day each part.
-march 8th did 80% water change to set parameter correctly, completely cleaned sump of gha. replaced chaeto (lots of pods). temporarily adding a reactor with carbon/GFO to try to circumvent GHA from gaining new foothold and allow chaeto to cume to a level where it is handling the nutrient load. all currently looks good in sump (see pic). plan to continue to flip ball on weekly basis
-this process was more difficult that i had assumed the short term end goal is to get tank to full triton. i have four part in basement do i NEED another dos? I have test on hand when should i send in? thinking on waiting a week or two since just did big w.c. when should i remove gfo carbon reactor? NO3 and PO4 have always read zero since cycle completion
i know there are gaps here. please ask ?'s if needed. d.t. has some minor algae on rock but cuc is working on that.
