Just the salt

when using aquaforest can you just use the probiotic salt? My concern is running nutrients to low and having to dose even more.

Established system always looking for ways to improve it, never looking into ways to make things more complicated. Currently just use the Red Sea salt and kalk in the top off. Wanting to get more into sps, got my first peice to try durning the cherry corals live sale. Not sure if I would 2 part when the time comes or use the balling method.

You can and it will be just like other salts with bit more with added probiotics but then you need to depend on the water change to replenish the bacterial pool. I would say you can use the salt and dose their probiotics to keep the bacterial pool running. You may not choose to dose their balling solutions I dont think that will be a problem. But remember one thing you will possibly not see the full potential of the system.

why would you need to replenish the bacteria? Shouldn't it just repopulate like it does now in my rocks and sand? Or is it different bacteria that works with what's in the Rock and sand? Or does it kill that off and takes its space?

My limiting factor is dosing daily a product that needs to be refrigerated. Like what if I miss 2 weeks while on vacation? Does the tank crash?

With probiotic salts you dont need to with weekly water changes. Yes you were right about the bacterial population , over the period your new probiotic bacteria will replace the older ones due to selection pressure. But one thing if you are going for holiday how will you do water changes and dont worry about low nutrient the probiotic salt has amino acid and vitamins included.
