Juvenile naso tang

wasting our time.... ONE person says "why not" and looks like you're only listening to that person. We should take you and put you in a closet to live...

The reason he asked did because I'm pretty sure he just wanted one person to agree with him so he wouldn't feel as bad about his decision even though he knows the answer.

You're already putting the fish in a "closet" by removing it from its natural environment.

I personally add fish to my system with the plans to keep long term. I grow attached and do everything I can to keep them happy and healthy.
There's a lot of fish I would love to have but pass up, but that's just me.

If you want a fish and know you will be upgrading or have to give up is your choice.

In the end that's kinda the whole basis of this hobby. I'd say less than 5% of reefers here started with very large tanks. Most started with tanks under 75 gallons. Upgrading is one of the things pretty much everyone looks forward to doing in this hobby. My first tank right now is a 29 gallon. In my closet is a 75 gallon diy sump, 24x24x8 frag tank and I'm going to pick up a 150 gallon next weekend to get a good start on my next set up. My tank now is grossly overstocked. But all parameters are perfect. All fish are fat and live wonderfully together and I look forward to giving them a much larger home to live in.

A lot of people are only concerned with their needs or wants, with no regard to others. Some get to consumed with the hype of say a fish or coral just to say they have it, and to get the oooohs and awwwws. And yes we are all guilty of that, but there comes a point when we should do what's right and look past ourselves.

We do enough damage by removing these animals from their natural habitat for our pleasure. The very least we can do is place them in a home that is suitable for their needs.

I disagree with everyone. You will be fine with him BUT you MUST upgrade within a year. I do not agree with the person who said when he gets to big just trade him back. What? Thats like getting a St. Bernard when you live in an apartment knowing in a year you'll be getting rid of him or saying "***, I didn't think they got this big".

I had great plans of upgrading my 75g reef to a 125 within a year, so I thought about getting a yellow tang. After actually setting up a reef tank, spending all the money and all the time I'm now realizing how unrealistic that plan was and i'm very thankful I went with a Kole tang.

Heck, I was suppose to have my "big" tank over 10 years ago (( even made the mistake of buying blue face angel for it --- my 75 would be fine until I had the big tank )). Well, life gets in the way. I am just now setting up a 210. Had to sell the blue face, which was a PITA.

IMO/E, buy fish that can spend their lifespan in the tank that you CURRENTLY have, and not one you hope to have, or are planning on having "soon".

Very good advice. I did the opposite and stocked a 75 gallon with plans to upgrade. But I am a fortunate one that actually did the upgrade. Which is why I never suggest anyone to do the same. Knowing what I know now it's just irresponsible on our part to do such things.

That's where I'm at right now. I have a badly stocked 29 gallon but thankfully I have everything but the larger tank for the new set up. Just waiting for it to go on sale lol.

Yeah unless you have most of your new setup already, my experience has been to plan on using what you have for a while. After sinking 2 grand into a 75g, I'm a lot less eager to do it all again right away.

So far in my 120/150 build I've spent about 2500$ and I still have the actual tank and skimmer to get... So I don't plan to upgrade for about another 4 years lol.. So a 150 will be plenty of space for my current livestock.
