Hi all,
I have a 3 inch male blue throat trigger. Trying to feed him the best diet but I feel like im getting conflicting diet info. I read a lot about how you have to help them wear down their teeth, but everything suggests feeding meaty foods. How does squid or scallops help wear teeth down? People say clam on the halfshell but how does that do anything for his teeth? Also read that they are big pod eaters when young? So what is the best for such a small trigger?

They will inevitably bite on the shell when eating the clam meat out, these bitings naturally help to keep the teeth trimmed. Triggers are tough, 3" is not a small fish, nor a particularly delicate one. Feed it a mix of meaty foods, you can supplement with Selcon or vita-chem and it will be fine. Don't wrack your brain over it or over think it too much.

Triggers will usually try to eat anything you add to the tank, just part of the curiosity.

I've never feed mine clams or oysters. Lot of krill and red nori. Then what ever else I add, brine, mysis, worms, pellets.

They will nibble on small snails and live rock too. Like little kids in a toy store, they play with everything.
