Hi everyone,

It's time for me to add a sump to my 450l bow-front aquarium and I was wondering if anyone had any experience of modifying the split cabinet underneath to fit one?

I've attached a picture of the cabinet to show what I'm working with. What I would really like is to have a refugium in the middle so I could only see the refugium when the doors are closed and not the equipment at either side.

Any advice or tips on what I can and can't do to the cabinet would be greatly appreciated!

Factory cabinets are frequently under-built so I would not remove any supports. If the bottom of that stand was not designed for another tank, I would not put anything substantial on it either unless you fully support underneath of it. I would seriously consider making a DIY stand that is designed to hold your equipment properly.

Thanks Bob, the tank and cabinet were a compromise as it is, it's the only one that size that my wife liked enough to fit in with the dining room so I'd rather reinforce and convert this one to save myself some grief! I hadn't considered the weight underneath though, that's a really good point!
