kalk: alk relative to calcium

I read somewhere that kalkwasser and calcium formate will slowly raise alk relative to Ca. How could this be if corals consume alk and ca at the same ratio?

You are correct that kalkwasser (calcium hydroxide) will add alkalinity and Ca at the same ratio that they are consumed by corals.

I'm not sure about the effect of calcium formate on alk.
