i have been dosing bulk reef supply kalk for the past few weeks and so far... i love it! my dkh has stayed above 11 and my calcium has remained above 450 for every test. I use roughly 1 tbs per gallon and dissolve it with 1/3 cups of vinegar. and dose it to the tank via ato system. my top off water usually lasts me like 1.5-2 weeks it seems ( never really looked to see how long it lasts). anyways, my question is about a white film that forms on top of my top off water. anyone know if thats something that just forms from the use of kalk and the water sitting there for a while or is that something that i should be worried about?

It just forms by itself. Its actually a good thing because you dont want your kalk mix being exposed to air. It will reduce its effectiveness over a shorter period of time than you might think. The crust helps prevent air contact and makes your mix last longer. Do not disturb it, do not repeatedly stir your kalk. Mix it once and leave it.

Oh btw, i prefer brightwell aquatics "kalk+2". Its well balanced and will give you good magnesium levels as well.

Have you noticed an increased in magnesium? I the high ph and calcium content would precipitate out anything else in the water...
