I wanted to hear from the experienced reefers what they dose and why they prefer it over the other and what system do you use to dose. Also when should someone with a new reef tank begin dosing?

David

Iv been using kalk for about a year now and love it but I still have to add alk to keep it up

I dose both. I dose Reef Fusion 2-part which contains mag in it so my doser has a "free" pump, which I use for Kalk saturated RODI.

I don't like running Kalk through my ATO because of how variable it is depending on the season and how my thermostat is set, so I dose it through my extra dosing pump. It keeps my Alkalinity, pH, and Calcium much more stable and completely eliminates the possibility of an overdose.

For my 20g w/ 10g sump, I dose 250ml of Saturated Kalk-Water per day which keeps my pH at 8.2-8.3, lowers my 2-part usage by 10-15%, and saves me a little less than a 1/2g a week in my ATO. I have an Acro dominated tank and some of the colonies are getting pretty big so the Kalk barely puts a dent in the 2-part usage, but with the price of Reef Fusion, every little bit helps.

I read this in another forum anyone do this method what are your thoughts on this?

Because I was thinking if I go with 2 part dosing I would buy a doser pump put I read this method and wanted to know what reef2reef members thought

"I use two part in the following manner: My tank loses about 10 gallons of water per week due to evaporation. I have my top off water in two 5 gallon buckets and my top off pump pulls from both buckets (peristaltic pump that I got super cheap on ebay). I measure out a weeks worth of part 1 into one bucket and a weeks worth of part 2 into the other bucket. That way the two part is being dosed into the tank all day long as the tank is periodically topped off. This way you never forget to do it and since it is being added very slowly throughout the day you don't get any big white clouds."
