So I’ve recently set up a nano sps. I’m to the point now where I need to start dosing alk and calcium (tank currently at 6.7dkh). I’ve always dosed 2 part in all my tanks, but I’ve seen some great success with kalk. I have both on hand. I don’t necessarily want to set up a Kalk stirrer, or want to add to ato. So I’d probably just dose it with a dosing pump. I am open to all options though. I really don’t know to much about Kalk though so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

2 part is probably going to be easier on such a small tank. All for reef is another option, but 2 part (with soda ash) is better if you have pH issues.

I was going to mention all for reef as an option but with the tank being mainly sps I feel like at some point that will get costly. I think you might be right with 2 part being my best bet. Tank is 31 gallons, after displacement probably 25 gal of water.

Any idea what the tank's daily consumption of alk is? If you can meet the demand with kalk, that's a really effective and easy and cheap option. It replaces alk and Ca in the correct ration, only requires 1 'doser', and gives a pH boost.

If the tank is going through a lot of alk, or you already have the equipment for 2 part, that's a good option too.

There are advantages to both. I agree with not tying kalk to an ATO, and I don't see what people love so much about kalk stirrers. I just mix up a bucket of kalk at a time.

I have a 29 gallon and use kalk on a dosing pump, no stirrers, just a sealed jug with 3 gallons of solution. Mostly LPS and softies and a couple of starter SPS, coralline growing everywhere. I'm not a crazy tester, just test weekly, currently alk ranges mid 8's, pH is usually mid 8's when I test, Calcium low to mid 400's.

My mag is the one have to add occasionally since that has been on the low side...but it could be my test kit.

I'm an advocate of doing kalk slow, just a taste for a bit and see what it does, I've done plenty of drain a drip jug over a weekend and shot alk up.
