I started dosing kalk via the tunze calcium dispenser. I started with 4tsps in the container on 1/17. On 1/18 my alk was 9.895 and cal was 430,1/19 10.007 and 430,1/23 9.392 and 425,1/24 9.28 and 425. After 1/24 measurements I added 4 more tsps. That made a week between adding more kalk. Now today (1/26) I got 10.175 and 425. All measurements made by Hannah alk checker and salifert cal. My question is why is my calcium stable and alk is up and down?

Have you tried taking more then one alkalinity reading in a row? Or twice in a day at different times. Those numbers look close enough to me to call it all close enough. Now if you got like 11.something dkh or 8.something dkh then I'd be saying your not keeping it stable. What you have is all with in 1dkh and with in the accuracy limits of the checker. +/- 5% of the reading.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure how much up and down in the measurements is is considered stable.

Limewater adds 20 ppm calcium for each 2.8 dKH of alkalinity.

Your alk is moving by less than 1 dKH, so the calcium will move by less than 7 ppm, which you won't be able to reproducibly detect.

Thanks Randy. So should I just keep doing what I'm doing or adjust the amount of kalk I'm adding. Is less than 1dkh movement considered stable?

I’m thinking of getting a tunz kalk dispensar. Quick question. I use a 10 gallon ato. Would I have to refill the TUNZE dispensar with new kalk every time the 10 gallon jug runs out and I refill the ro.

I'm not familiar with that device. is it just a dispenser (then yes) or is it something that stirs the water and mixes it up (then no).
