Ive had my precision marine kalk reactor for years. A tube snapped on a move. They fixed it and send it back. Pump broke and they told me how to get a new one. Just moved again and the tube snapped in a differed place.

So question is should I buy another one from precision marine or get a different brand?

Chill out on moving day! :D

I can't say whether or not it's worth getting a new one as I'm not familiar with that unit, but I can say I like my Tunze 5074. It's a bit different in style than most, but simpler....so I like it. :) (It fits in-line after your ATO pump, so that the ATO pump is the feed and stirring mechanism.

How do you not get Kalk following the flow out?

You might have to take a look at one, but that's just how it's designed. Flow enters at the bottom of the reactor and stirring action is very mild. Perhaps if it ran a long time you might get some powder to come out, but that would represent a failed ATO or something. :)

My Kalk is mixed in a 32 Brute, and added via a BRS 50ml pump 4mintues every 1/2 hour. Never have any problems, ever.

Gotcha. I have a hard time trusting that to actually saturate the water. Have you done tests over time on the output?

PS: my diatoms are gone. I'll pm you later the story.

Tunze doesn't mess around on their designs. :) It's not a heavy duty reactor, but lots of churning usually just reacts the kalk inside the reactor more quickly...so it doesn't really need to be heavy duty.

To answer your question, here's a thead I made: Measuring Kalk/Lime Reactor Output - Just Do It!

:)

The 5074 is pretty much good between ATO fills. It needs to be recharged frequently to maintain full output. I ran vinegar in my ATO to supercharge it for most of the time I used it, but unfortunately that was from before the mS meter so I don't have any numbers. (And I don't run the reactor at all right now or I'd get some numbers for you....it's on a shelf for now.)

Nice. Thanks for the info.

I can measure. I'll try to do with and without stirring when I fire it up. Dosing calcium is getting old.

I thought about it but I hate the idea of spending 100 for a bottle.

It's a nice setup and only around 1/3 the cost of similar reactors which aren't much more than a bottle and are apparently break-prone. ;)

But DIY one if the price is too much. It's a relatively simple design! :)

@powdertang05 if I can find the old design I'll post a DIY reactor. Just remembered it. Cool cheap simple design.

Even dosing Kalk I'll probably still have to setup a doser. I'm just running a Ca-reactor right now.

With the new setup. I purchased a DOS and will be doing 2 part. I used kalk for ATO. Helped with PH. I have about 14 inches between stand and sump.

Ah gotcha. Do you want me to see if I can find it or no?

I know there's been mixed results here but running an airline to my skimmer brought my pH up 0.2 pts

I don't recommend worrying that much about pH in most cases. A pH meter is nice to have, but only when you need it....otherwise it can be like a goose chase.

All things considered pH doesn't have that great an impact if all else (nutrients, chemistry, etc) is in good shape. So worry about that stuff instead. :)
