Hi Guys, im thinking of getting a Kalk Stirrer for my system to increase PH slightly and just to see how it works really. I use a calcium reactor which maintains my Alk/Cal easily so just want to use Kalk to PH top up.
Do you need to use alot of Kalk to raise PH of the tank. Currently sits at 8.1/8.2 and is around 200g total water volume.
Looking at getting the Avast one.
How often do you people actually clean it also? I see it says every 2 weeks just wonder if that what people actually do it that often
Cheers

It depends on your evaporation rate. I have about 1.75 gallons of evaporation a day and just set up my medium IceCap Kalk Rxer yesterday. I dosed at night and the tank pH overnight was a steady 7.96-8.02. Before set up, my tank pH usually drops to 7.8 at night and rises to 8.0 during the day. The one issue with Ca Rxers is the drop in tank pH as your corals start growing more and more. Ramping up the Ca reactor over the years will trend your pH down. KRs are nice but make sure to be careful as kalk water is caustic and deadly to the tank if overdosed. You don't want to set a KR up and not be available or at home the first 24 hours to make sure the timing and cycles are programed properly. Set the feeder peristaltic pump to stop with tank pH around 8.4, especially the first several days.
