Ok so i dose saturated kalk to the evaporation limit of my tank. My thought is if i used a kalk stirrer and cycled saltwater from my tank through it as needed i would not run up against that limit. I'm sure there is a reason not to, but can anybody tell me why we don't do it this way. I mean even if I had to pump a hundred gallons a day through it it seems to make more sense to me.

A lot of people use Kalk In their ato. If you are adding more tank water you will rapidly increase salinity etc. your wasting the Kalk that’s precipitating And depending on the make up of your tank water you may have different amounts of precipitate thus your dose of Kalk may not be stable

I add kalk tom my ATO.. but if you screw up like I did last night and let 3 gallons of pH 11+ RODI into your tank (left it on durring a water change) plus it lowered my salinity drastically. Make sure you can compensate. I had 20 gallons left after the water change screw up .. went to my LFS and got 25 more gallons (tank+ sump volume is 80) over a couple hours of ins and out got it back to normal's.

Yeah i use saturated kalk now. I'm talking about a closed loop kalk stirrer using the water from my tank with a dosing pump to get more kalk into my tank without using top off water.

I think you should move this to the reef discussion forum - this forum is for 'experiments'. No offense. I will ask @Daniel@R2R to move it to the correct place.
