Kalkwasser.. but what else

All for reef claims to have trace elements in it but I havent seen anything significant since using it. But kalk gets the job done for me and it's super easy to use. I guess for my trace elements I rely on water changes for 20% every week or 2

Dilithium crystals for trace elements.

Epsom salts for magnesium if its a light calcium uptake. Magnesium chloride for higher dosing.

If you can keep alk and calcium in check with kalk alone and you do regular water changes you likely dont need to supp trace elements. I think regular water changes on low demand tank will supplement your trace elements just fine. When kalk cant keep up thats when you may want to consider dosing trace elements.

I don’t believe water changes need to be done with correct dosing methods.. and efficient nutrient export.. and I’m trying to leave water changes only for emergencies..

Agreed if you are going the no water change route. I would be nervous not doing water changes on a newer system. I think it can be done, but it needs to be monitored closely with regular icp testing. Icp testing is not cheap and if you are not doing water changes to save on the cost of salt it really becomes a wash in price between the two unless you have a very large system. I can tell you from experience my last tank ran for just over 4 years, the last 2.5 years of it I tried the no water change method and probably only did a handful of small water changes during that 2.5 years. I dosed Aquaforest 123 which inc trace elements and did icp tests every 3-4 months and made minor corrections between based on results. I struggled with acros, they would do ok for about a month, not really an pe but would hold color then STN over a few day period. My new tank that has been up for just about 4 months, I have been doing 15% water changes every other week and acros have been thriving and have amazing pe for months. I have come to the conclusion that water changes are not only helping in supplementing trace elements but helping in removing contaminants that are introduced in the tank. We have small pieces of the ocean in our homes where tons of stuff is introduced to the air and make their way into the tank. Icp testing does not test for every contaminant known to man. This is just my theory and have noticed big benefits of doing water changes.

@Randy Holmes-Farley

I dose NaOH in my aquarium via doser, pH stays 8.1-8.3 which is beautiful.
However, when my AWC kicks in, pH goes crashing down to or even below 8.1.

How do I raise my "fresh" SW's pH, was thinking of aeration.... any other magical non-alk/ca raising supplements?
