I don't think I should have mixed the kalkwasser inside the ATO

Get a spray bottle with RO water in it and give it a spray down every couple of days and you'll be good.

The effect is linear with the solid added and liquid dosed.

So 2 teaspoons in 1 L added is the same as 1 teaspoon in 2 liters added.

Thus the new dose (2376 mL of 2 tsp per gallon) is more total addition than 3785 mL of 1 tsp/gal.

That's what I did for 20+ years (mixed in the ATO), but I did not use a float valve, I used a slow pump.
