so I've decided to dose with kalkwasser...I have filled up a one gallon container with 1 tsp of kalk. My plan is to top off my sump when it needs it I can't drip it cause I'm not set up for that. Since I mixed it I have sediment in the bottom of the jug...I don't want that sediment in my sump correct?

Why not get a dripper?

The small amount of sediment isn't a concern, but I'd leave it behind.

That said, manual dosing is tricky. You cannot add much at once of the pH will get too high.
Adding 1.25% of the aquarium volume will boost pH by about ~0.6-0.7 pH units instantly. Way too much.

If you dose 0.1% of the tank volume at once it should be OK. Add to a very high flow area away from corals. You may still get local precipitation in a sump if that's where you dose.

I am adding the kalk to raise my ph slowly to battle my dinoflagellates. I was planning on just pouring very small amounts over an extended period of time to eventually raise my ph from 8.0 to 8.4. I guess I should do some research in the dripper.

So not sure if I have my math right but .1% of 55 gal would be .055 of a gallon. That breaks down to .88 of a cup so if I dose that I should be safe from raising my ph to high.

I will do mine into the sump so I don't take the chance of any build up in the tank but I have watched videos of people drip into the tank in high flow
