i’m looking to start dosing kalk in my 50 gal system. i don’t even know where to begin with how much to mix into the top off water etc. i have an ato that’s how i’m planning on dosing. can someone give me the run down on how much to dose and other steps?

BRS has a video on this. Depends how well your tank is stocked with coral and what type of coral you have. I think it varies from 0.5 to 2 teaspoons per gallon.

Start with a low dose.

Say you have a 5 gallon ATO, mix in 2 teaspoons or so. Test your ALK before you start your kalk up. Test after a few days. If your ALK has gone up then you can lower your amount of Kalk in your next batch. If you test and your ALK is lower, then you can add Kalk to your next batch. Once you get close it doesn't change that often and you can test much less.

If you don't have many corals that consume Alk and Calc then I'd start with an even lower dose. Like 1 Teaspoon per 5 Gallons.
