I have a calcium reactor dialed in right now and I’m thinking of adding Kalkwasser to maintain pH.

Is this necessary ? I’ve seen mixed stories on people who chase pH and some don’t

Do you have any logged data from before and after you set up your CaRx? That would at least tell you if there was a change. Then you can decide if it’s even necessary.

Let me be the first to say you're an idiot for even considering this. Do you want to nuke your tank? Huh? Do you? You freaking moron.

Okay maybe the hoard of people who see Kalk and ATO won't respond after I said that.

I experimented once with it in my ATO and was pleased with the results. Enough that I bought a kalk stirrer, but I also looked into dosing saturated. There are many who will say proper maintenance of your ATO pump is a safe and effective way of dosing as well.

I’m not sure how to take your message? Are you joking with the insults? I don’t know if you talk to strangers like that or what.

thanks for the input

It was indeed a joke.

When I dosed kalk in an ATO, I got an overwhelmingly negative and preachy response. And not for no good reason. It will not be difficult for you to research why.

It was a very common method for quite a while, but has fallen out of style. Many will still defend it, but there are safer methods.

You can utilize a doser and/or a kalk stirrer. A CO2 scrubber may be easier and simpler if you're just looking to boost ph.

Thanks for clarification I was like, wow that’s the first time Someone went in on me

I have a co2 scrubber that works good but pH falls quick. I might just stick with that and replace media every 3 days. Kalk stirrer doesn’t seem too bad but the dKh is stable with carx

This is just my experience , I used kalk with my Ato for quite a while and it was a rollercoaster with alk swings. So many things can slow your coral growth down and decrease alk demand. No way to tune that with an Ato other than shutting it off.

I love kalkwasser, so picked up a kalk reactor and will add a certain ml per day with the reactor fed by a dosing pump. I will add a failsafe through apex shutting down the reactor if alk goes above x amount. Main alk control will be with a Dosetronic, and add kalk through reactor for its benefits. Hth’s

You should post your pH logs. It will be helpful for folks to better assist you. I don't have any ca reactor experience, so I should bow out at this point.

But to clarify, I dosed alongside all for reef. I was dosing maybe 1/4 saturated kalk in my ATO. I saw a .1-.2 average increase in pH whole also running a scrubber. I'm close to setting up my stirrer and will be happy to share my results when I do.

Good luck!
