Hey everyone I want to start using kalkwasser in my ato but I'm not sure on how I figure out how much to add to the ato to maintain my perms I only have a few small corals right now so there isn't much consumed in a day any help is appreciated

I am glad you asked that question. I have been using it in my ato and my numbers are not where I expected. Dkh up and calc down. First check since I started it 2 weeks ago.

Although I think this should be a standard procedure even if not dosing, there's a procedure I think it prudent to follow, and to help minimize the affects of WC's on dosing.
First, if you're not using the entire package, would be to thoroughly mix the salt mix to make sure there was no elemental stratification that may have occurred during shipping, and you're getting the proper proportions of all the elements, i.e. Ca, Mg, Alk, etc., with each measure of salt mix when you make up your WC water.
Secondly, following proper mixing procedures, i.e using RO/DI water, adding the salt mix to the water, etc., I would make sure to accurately get the SG you want, I preferred 1.026(35ppt), using a properly calibrated measuring device, i.e. refractometer calibrated with a 35ppt solution(not plain water), to ensure the same amount of these elements with each WC. Using a swing arm type of hydrometer, or other non/mis calibrated device can cause differences in your SG when you make up your WC water, and further skew a dosing schedule. Using a decent set of test kits, i.e. Salifert, Red Sea Pro, etc., measure your Mg first, making sure its between 1200-1400ppm, then your Alk and Ca.
Next, I would set and keep a schedule of WC's in terms of both frequency, i.e. weekly, bi monthly, monthly, etc. and volume, i.e. 10%, 15%, 10 gal.,15 gal., etc. to help minimize any skewing that may normally occur, since this is where you're adding/replenishing those elements in an ongoing basis.
Once you have your SG corrected(if needed), adjusted your parameters, i.e. Ca, Mg and Alk(individually if necessary), and your WC schedule adopted, start to measure and record your demand over a few days. Use this calculator, fill in the blanks for your system, and select the appropriate supplement from the drop down menu's to get your dose.
Depending on a particular load in any system, it's likely that you may need to adjust your dosing based on a particular WC schedule, i.e. the disproportionate use of Alk vs Ca supplement, since the WC is better at keeping up with the Ca needs. You may notice that, with regular WC's, you may never/only occasionally, have to dose any Mg, since there is very little of it used(about 1/10th of your Ca use), and its replenished with regular WC's.

Up to 2 teaspoon per gallon ATO water. I started with 1 per gallon then slowly increased to 2. I also add 40 mL vinegar per gallon to help control nitrate and phosphate and reduce algae.

I have a BC 29. With rock and gravel and the back full, I consider it 25 g.
The tank was set up in September w live rock from a teardown. It had a mini cycle.
I do a monthly wc of 2g.

2 weeks ago I began adding appx 2 t of kalk to my rodi topoff jug of appx 4g.
I loose about a g evap a day as I have a muffin fan blowing down in the back to control temp.

Param:
Ammo. 0
Nitrate. 7
Phos. 1.5
Sg. 1.026
Ph. 8.5
Dkh. 13.65
Temp. 76
Mg. 1350
Ca 200

Ph of topoff 12.5

I have skimmer and chaeto in the rear compartments. I run a small piece of carbon mat. Nitrate mat and phosphate mat. I use pillow floss and change it 2 or 3 x a week. Chemipure original also. Changed monthly.

I did a 3g wc after the testing. I use IO.

Since the alkalinity is pretty high, I'd drop the amount of calcium hydroxide used. Maybe drop to 1/4 teaspoon to your top off jug and see what that does to alk over a week. :)

I also suspect the 200 ppm calcium is testing error.

The only way that can be attained is by addition of large amounts of buffer and no calcium.

If you did not do that, it isn't accurate (or your salt mix is way off, which is not common at all).

Try the kit on some new salt water. :)

Any advice on how I start implementing kale on my system I have never used anything like this before

Do you intend to add it manually, by drip, or with an ATO?

What is the alkalinity now?

my ato runs off my reefkeeper and the pump is an toms aqualifter pump so its pretty slow and I will test my alk when I get home tonight

OK, so the way would be to add a small amount of calcium hydroxide into the ATO water, as long as alk shows some need. Start very slow and work to higher amounts if needed.

Ok so I did some testing and I got an Alk of 8.4 and the calcium I'm not sure my Red Sea kit says 480 and my api kit says 400 and I did both twice and got the same thing from each twice
