I am going to start dosing Kalkwasser. My aquarium is around 400g's water volume, so I assume I need a large unit.

I have been eyeing the Reef Octopus KS250 Kalkwasser Stirrer, but is costs over $500. Is a fancy stirrer really necessary? Or is a homemade option of some sort just as good? I would rather pay money for ease-of-use though.

Anyone have experience with this Reef Octopus model or do you highly recommend a different unit?

I’ve used the avast k2 for about a year. I thinks it’s great!

I have the smaller avast unit and its been great. I had to make a small hole in one of the tubes for a syphon break. It has been working for months without a single issue. I go through kalk like crazy, too. I would buy the biggest quanity of kalk you can find, like 5 gallons.

Get yourself the Avast unit, probably the K2 for a tank of your size. It is a very simple and effective design. The best part is replacement parts are fairly inexpensive and readily available from Avast should the need ever arise.

Any recommendations on where to get the best deal on quality bulk kalk?

The Avast units are really good. Have had mine going on 3-4 years and it's been hassle free.
