Kalkwasser without test kits

Is it safe to dose weak calcium hydroxide solution for top off without calcium or alk test kits? like a 1/4tsp per gallonish?

I wouldn't. Stability is key to a successful reef tank, without testing for accurate levels you're just "shooting in the dark". You should never dose anything that you can't test for, you risk losing all your inhabitants on a guess.

I definitely would not. You can do much more harm than good.

I'd monitor alkalinity, if mostly because it may not be enough to be useful. Once you get a routine set, you can test less and less frequently. maybe almost never.
