Kalkwasser

About the loose fitted lid on a brute container, the top of the water forms a skin barrier of calcium carbonate and i believe that prevents or stops any further precipitation.
But as the water level drops when the ato activates, the skim clings to the side of the container, leaving room for more of the calcium carbonate to form.
I use a almost air tight container on my 50 gallon tank and I'm not seeing the precipitation nearly as bad as a open top container.
In fact it is next to none.

I think the drop in calcium hydroxide isnt a big concern. Have you noticed a big difference? My trash can is oversaturated and the bottom has plenty to redissolve.

My original concern was the amount of precipitation clogging and interfering with the float valve that runs rodi to the topoff container.
Also I was curious why the difference between the 2 containers.
So, I remember Randy mentioning several times he was doing the kalkwasser top off similar to what I was doing.
I looked for pictures of his setup and couldn't find any, so I asked.
I do get settling in the bottom of my smaller topoff container which I clean out approx. once a year, or whenever it bugs me.
I just didn't see the precipitation I was getting in the bigger open top container.

In fact I found a fairly reasonably priced ( and no shipping cost) 30 gallon container with a tighter lid than the lid that comes with a brute.
I agree the fact that there is precipitation isn't a big concern chemically.
I was more concerned about moving parts.
