I am new to the hobby and am starting out with a Red Sea 350 G2+ as my first build. I am not sure if I am just ambitious or flat crazy. I have been studying for the last six months, thank you Youtube! I waited to purchase my tank until we attended Reefapalooza in Orlando, especially since we do not have any local shops except for a large chain pet store.

I was pleasantly surprised by the show itself. It was a fantastic experience to be introduced into the hobby. I was able to see and learn much but also to put my eyes on different tanks and equipment. Being a novice, I opted for the Red Sea because all major equipment was included, thus giving me room to be able to learn from the experience. I am sure in the future, I will want to change out equipment or add more but for now, this does give me a comfort level.

Now, the questions...... As of today, I have installed most of the equipment and did some major cord rangling. I am just not sure about the electrical being in the same cabinet with so much moisture. Your thoughts on this would be very helpful. The photo shows controllers on the right wall, power bricks attached to the ceiling. Should I get another separate cabinet for electronics, i.e. controllers?

Welcome to the salty side. Great choice for a new tank. I have the XL300 and has been flawless for 3.5 years now for me. You can fit a 10g ATO reservoir in there.

I did get one of the new slim tanks, 5 gallon. It can fit perfectly along one of the walls or behind my tank. It is about 4 inches wide. I may opt for the larger one eventually or a second one.

Thanks for sharing. It is nice to hear positive opinions on Red Sea.

I've had good luck with my reefer 300 xl. Congrats on the new tank!

I don't think a separate cabinet for the electronics is necessary, but maybe a nice to have. My hydros system and all power bricks are in my stand.

If you're going to put in a roller mat, do it prior to getting the tank setup. Much easier now to plumb that in than when the system is running.

Yes the slim line are nice. 10g will probably benefit you more especially if you go on vacation for a week or two. I can get 2 weeks supply out of mine if I'm gone.

Looking good

I like how Red Sea reinforced the bigger tank stands

I put GFCI outlets for my tanks. Either the strip, the GFCI, or the breaker will pop

(Yes, I know the hazards of using GFCI for a reef tank)

Oops, it's too late. I did wait on purpose because the location of the ATO sensor will sit behind the Reefmat. I wanted to make sure my ATO would work correctly and that I could quickly get to the sensor.

Thanks for sharing. My two power stations are surge protectors, and I had my husband install GFCI for my outlet plug, although that circuit has that protection in the breaker box. We used it for an ice maker, which we no longer use. Again, thanks for sharing.

Hi Kven, I'm also going on a Redsea Peninsula 350 G2+ adventure, my first saltwater. I'm still studying for now. Following lots of debates with my wife, I've defined its location as an embedded room separator between the dining room and kitchen.

I'm following your every post because you're further advanced than I am. I'm planning to take delivery in the first week of October 2024. Lighting and livestock remain undefined although I think that I'm going to install two Philips Coral Care lamps because they're silent.

I'm still studying controllers, chemical dosing and automatic feeding devices. I also need to define sump lighting and monitoring. I'm thinking about installing a nest camera to keep my eyes on it while traveling.

This is not easy and, to make things more difficult, there are few fish stores in the Paris, France region where I live. Looking forward to reading your posts. Please share your successes and failure. I need guidance on a lot of topics. I'm planning on getting someone to help me with landscaping and decorating but, if I find some good literature on that, I'll attempt it myself.

I'm going to attempt to make friends here locally with some experienced salt water aquarium enthusiasts but there are not a lot of them.

I also need to figure out how to manage the aquarium in my absence because we travel a lot. I'm wondering if you're up against that or how I might get some guidance on that.

Please keep posting.

Yes, I was afraid of that. I did order the Reefmat and it is sitting in my living room in the box and has a dual purpose, plant stand. It actually works quite well next to my glass doors out to the deck. The plant had to find a new home at the arrival of my 20 gallon quarantine tank. It now sits atop my yorkie, Miley's home, i.e. dog house.

Anyway, I dud buy one. My reasoning behind not installing it in the beginning was because of the location where it must sit, in front of the return chamnmber that houses the ATO. You see, since I am a total newbie to this hobby, I figured I needed to figure out how all if it works before I install an appliance that blocks my view of one of them. I am glad that I waited. It has given me an opportunity to work with my ATO and get to know it. I have had to readjust the sensor higher to maintain the correct water level for my tank.

I am looking forward to installing it as soon as my tank has cycled.

Dear Solo McReefer, I'm sorry but I don't know the hazards of using a GFCI for a reef tank. I am planning on placing a Red Sea 350 G2+ peninsula in the middle of a room as a room divider and was considering installing an electrical outlet on the floor directly below the tank with a GFCI. (in order to avoid the appearance of any wiring.) Is that reasonable or am I crazy? Thank you very much for any advice. Mind you, I have not discussed this with any electrician yet and there will be one involved.

A GFCI can pop for no apparent reason

When I used to use radio communications, "walkie talkies", I could key the mic of one near a GFCI outlet to make it pop

You must plan for that happening, when you are asleep or not at home

I purchased my scape while attending Reefapolooza in Orlando. They have been very good to work with. I will share the link. https://reef-scape-designs.myshopify.com/

For lighting I used Sensky brand cabinet lighting kit I purchased from Amazon. The strips work very well and the sensor is helpful. The only issue with the sensor is when working with my sump, by body blocks the sensor. A door type latch may work better but I really do like this lighting. It works very well. I ran it up top of the cabinet around the entire perimeter.

Wow! I found it! Its sold by a retailer out of the UK with a euro price. Looks ideal but I need to be sure that its going to function with a European electrical outlet. They mainly sell them for gun cabinets! I doubt they sell a lot in France since there are no guns sold here. I'll call the UK and find out if a simple adapter is going to do the job. I thought that Redsea could provide me a small light fixture but maybe no. Thank you very much for the tip!

I don't see that they offer lights, other than acquarium lighting, or that they recommend one.
