does anyone have ideas how to keep like a brown powder or Achilles tang alive? I tried the past 2 years and I can’t never keep it alive.

Do you have the ability to bring it in and start it off in a quarantine tank? 29g or 40g breeder would be a great size to acclimate them and tread if any issues arise.

Do you know why your previous attempts have not worked or how they died?

What about some details about the tank you are trying to establish one in?

an ich free DT tank is a definite must.

sterlized and cycled QT, powerhead with strong circulation, hiding spot, regular light cycle, and good food.

and a little luck. that is how i got mine into my display tank.

QT, treating for internal parasites, plenty of swimming room, high flow, varied diet, and frequent feedings with grazing opportunities available.

I'd judge the Achilles to be a much harder fish than the PB. Both are ich prone, but the former is much more finicky and demanding of high flow.

Powder brown tangs are fairly hardy, in my experience. I wouldn't attempt an Achilles without lots of knowledge/planning.

I have both. They aren't harder than any other tangs in my opinion.
Do you know the reason why you have failed in the past? Some info on your tank and inhabitants would help us help you.

one word of caution, some of the achilies are way way way aggresive. Not all, but mine must have grown up in detroit or something. He is MEAN.

luckily his territory only extends from the left pane all the way to the right pane and front to back. :/

so i would make him your last tang

Lol that made me laugh. My yellow still chase me when I walk by. Just hits the glass with his barb all the way down the tank next to me.

I've never had an Achilles but I have had difficult to keep fish and I have found heavy feeding of quality food and buying quality live stock to be the key. For my Moorish Idol I feed selcon soaked PE Mysis/LRS twice a day and two sheets of nori a day.
