I have a 35g display with two clowns and a royal gramma....

Can I safely add a single Blue Reef Chromis? The LFS has a group that arrived in and I pre-ordered one while I set up my QT.

Did I make a mistake?

I had a single blue/green chromis in my 40 with two clowns and a sixline and a firefish, he did just fine. I originally had three but he killed the other two, came to find out later that that's pretty common.

Same here. We had a group and the one picked on the others until he was the only one left. Had him for a for years now with no issue with just one in the tank.

that should be fine. You have really good self control. They were 8 dollars each at my lfs and it took everything in me not to by 5 but sigh tank in fallow..
Good luck

I assume you're talking about the less common blue reef chromis as opposed to the more common blue/green chromis. I've kept the blue reef chromis singlely twice, with no issues. First one was lost during a power outage and 2nd (current) one has been with me for close to 3 years. They do fine as a single.

Now the blue reef are supposed to get bigger than the blue/green at up to 5". Might be a little big for your tank at that size, but mine has been in a 90 and after almost 3 years has barely gotten any bigger. Guess they grew very slowly or maybe just don't reach the same size in captivity.

Good luck, you should be fine.

yes, blue reef chromis, not the blue/green....and good to hear, i put him in the QT last night :) Good to hear he won't get big quick....def. dont need a 5" fish swimming around
