So I have a water box 20 cube and it’s been doing well for almost 4 months now and I found that keeping a wall of algae on the back helps with nutrients and also feeds my tuxedo urchin and court jester goby. I don’t really care about the back glass as long as the rest of the tank is clean and I just wanted to know if anyone else does this or if I should stop doing this for any reason.

If you like it, keep it! I've definitely heard of other people that do this, mostly in reading old (2000s) books that talk about doing this for large herbivores like tangs. It may have fallen out of favor at some point, like a lot of things have (curing rock, not rinsing sand beds, etc.), and it may come back into play again some day.

I did this for my Court Jester Goby also for a while then it started getting to long and not looking the best. So I decided to only keep it on my heater cord and started to clean everything else. I'm also starting to grow coral on back to add some color to the glass.

Brilliant idea. An in-tank algae scrubber.
