Keeping a fish alone (subject typo)

Started my 2.5g about 10months ago with an azure damsel. I got him a clownfish buddy, but theyve grown, and now I see them bickering. Considering if I should return the clownfish.

Fish constantly interact with other fish, but damsels are territorial. If hes alone, will he be understimulated? Or stoked? Whats your opinion? Any burning suggestions for what I should do with this tank? Thanks!

They are both in the damsel family. That tank is too small for either of those fish to be honest. Maybe a small goby or something would feel more comfortable in there.
Thanks. Im aware, i was using the common names to refer to the two different fish. And I agree. I dont like returning fish to an unknown fate, but maybe thats whats best. But say I get an even tinier fish, is it happy by itself?

Yeah, you could possibly get a shrimp as well. They really don’t need other fish in the tank, species only tanks with a single fish is a fairly common thing in our hobby. I do like having multiple fish myself for the same reason as you and perceived emotions we believe our fish have. Maybe look into a biocube or something a little bigger :)
Or if you have space limitations this fish would be a good choice for a 10gal; they have a ton of personality too. Most LFS’s have them in stock, maybe not during this pandemic, but usually.
